Now What? Patient led podcast

The dedicated Guy’s Cancer team are always looking for ways to improve patient experience. That’s why we’ve funded a podcast series to offer peer support to people who have been diagnosed with cancer.

‘Now What?’ is a 10-part series hosted by Julia Bradbury, featuring cancer patients from Guy’s and St Thomas’

Julia was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2021. She said: “I know first-hand what it’s like to have your life upended by this disease, and the havoc it can wreak on your body, mind and everything in between.”

“I also know that with a little bit of luck and a lot of expertise, that surviving cancer isn’t just possible, it is becoming more and more likely with every passing year. I hope this series can provide some answers for patients, their family and loved ones.”

Brian Pestell, 71, was diagnosed with oesophageal cancer in 2018 and had surgery at Guy’s and St Thomas’ as part of his treatment. Brian said he decided to share his experiences through the podcast series to give support to other people going through similar experiences.

My motivation in taking part in this project was that I want to inspire people going through this experience that life doesn’t have to come to an end with your diagnosis - there is hope out there.

Since it launched in January 2024, the podcast has received 5-star reviews and fantastic feedback. One listener highlighted how the podcast has supported them, saying, ‘I felt reassured and no longer alone in going through this – it has automatically soothing effect.’

The team are hoping to be able to expand the podcast in the future, and support even more patients and families through their cancer treatment journey.

Tune into the ‘Now What?’ podcast series on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music to listen to heartfelt conversations that offer support, comfort, and guidance.
