Lizzie runs a half marathon for cancer care

In 2026, Lizzie ran London Landmarks Half Marathon to fundraise for Guy’s Cancer Charity, inspired by both her own experience and her family’s connection to the charity.

By the time Lizzie turned 7 years old, she had already been diagnosed with and in remission from leukaemia.

Thanks to pioneering research and groundbreaking treatments, Lizzie’s team found a chemotherapy that worked for her.

Lizzie’s experience means that cancer research is close to her heart, but Guy’s Cancer Charity has also been a big part of her family’s story. Her dad, Professor Jeremy Sanderson, is chief of cancer for Guy’s and St Thomas’, where the teams are supported by the charity.

My dad has seen firsthand how amazing this charity truly is and so I wanted to fundraise to show my support for how hard he’s worked over the last few decades!

Lizzie takes on a half marathon

In 2026, Lizzie ran London Landmarks Half Marathon, raising over £1,200 for Guy’s Cancer Charity and increasing awareness of the charity too.

“The amount I raised is great and meant so much to me, but a big part of the goal was also to make more people aware of Guy’s Cancer Charity. As well as donating, I know people have investigated the cause and learnt more about the work which I’m proud of.”

On the day, Lizzie was cheered on by the crowds, Guy’s Cancer Charity volunteers, and her mum and dad.

“The atmosphere was unbelievable. It was a sunny day, there was music everywhere, and the crowds were so loud. My mum and dad had a big sign they held up for me which helped me finish the race strong!”

Get inspired by Lizzie

To anyone considering their own challenge for Guy’s Cancer Charity, Lizzie says “DO IT!”.

“The training and fundraising are 90% of the fun, and completing the challenge is the cherry on top. Make that fundraising page and get going, it is so worth it.”
