The gift of more time

After Geoff met his oncologist, Dr Teresa, his cancer diagnosis sank in. Following his tenth chemotherapy session, Geoff could barely eat or speak, and the pain became unbearable. Soon afterwards, he had a feeding tube inserted which remained in place for two years.

It was during his time at Guy’s Cancer that Geoff joined a clinical trial alongside his treatment plan. As part of the trial, he was assigned Sarah, a Clinical Nurse Specialist, who became his rock for the rest of his treatment.

After getting the all clear, Geoff has been making the most of every moment he has – using his time to travel with his wife, staying healthy and raising vital funds for Guy’s Cancer Charity and awareness of head and neck cancers.

I now think of Guy’s Cancer as my extended family. Dr Teresa was just incredible and I don’t know what I would have done without the clinical nurse specialist Sarah. The rest of the team are the unsung heroes; the radiologists, the speech and language therapists, the dieticians, the physio, everybody has been absolutely fantastic. I can’t say thank you enough.
