Advancing cancer care with ctDNA testing

The dedicated Guy’s Cancer team are constantly looking for ways to advance cancer care and enhance lives. Thanks to your generosity, we’re bringing their imagination to life by funding pioneering new approaches like circulating tumour DNA (ctDNA) testing.

What is ctDNA technology?

CtDNA technology detects cancer-related changes in a person’s DNA using a simple blood test. Unlike traditional methods that require a biopsy (a procedure where a small tissue sample is taken from the body), ctDNA testing is quick and non-invasive.

This innovative approach speeds up test results and allows healthcare professionals to provide targeted treatment that’s tailored to each patient and their specific type of cancer.

Transforming treatment with ctDNA technology

Currently, ctDNA testing (also known as a liquid biopsy) isn’t widely available. So we’re helping Guy’s Cancer go beyond what the NHS can provide by funding the ctDNA salvage pathway project, which aims to offer ctDNA testing to all patients who need it in future.

This advanced technology is particularly useful for patients who develop resistance to treatment over time because of gene changes. ctDNA testing can help spot these changes in their blood, which will enable the expert Guy’s Cancer team to provide more effective treatment to better meet their individual needs. We’re committed to helping the tireless team provide the very latest in personalised care. Because everyone experiences cancer differently.

In the past eight months, we have been able to generate results for at least 28 patients who have then gained access to therapies that they otherwise wouldn't have had access to.

We’re proud to support this ground-breaking project, which will lay the foundation for ctDNA testing to be adopted nationwide by the NHS, making it part of everyday care and helping Guy’s Cancer patients receive faster, more tailored treatment.

Donate today and help Guy’s Cancer provide the very best personalised treatment and care – every step of the way.
